Regeneration - Sites to be released back to the Council

Dublin City Council says developer Bernard McNamara has agreed to withdraw from all five regeneration projects he was involved in.

The withdrawals from three of the projects - at O'Devaney Gardens in Dublin 7, Infirmary Road and the Convent Lands on Sean McDermott Street - was announced today. The projects collapsed in May.

As part of the agreement, Mr McNamara has agreed to release the sites back to the Council immediately, give the council a licence to the designs for the proposed developments and pay a contribution of €1.5m towards the Council's costs.

In July, Mr McNamara formally withdrew from the two other projects at St Michael's Estate in Inchicore and on Dominick Street following a request to do so from Dublin City Council.

In a statement this afternoon the Council says it is examining all the options regarding the future of these projects and hopes to have some proposals before the end of the year.

It says no further information would be given because of the terms of the mediation process with Mr McNamara.
