Victims of last month's flooding in Newcastlewest were given the findings of an investigation into the cause of the worst flooding in the town's history at a public meeting tonight.
The report, commissioned by Limerick County Council, found that July was an 'exceptionally wet month' leaving ground conditions fully saturated prior to the flood on 1 August.
During the storm 10% of the expected rainfall for the entire year fell over a five to six hour period.
The report says the river channel in Newcastlewest was overwhelmed and some properties were flooded because of water returning to this channel.
A support group for the flood victims has called on the Government to assist people, whose property was damaged.
The report will be available in full on the Limerick
County Council website from tomorrow morning.
