A Thai court ordered thousands of anti-government protesters to leave the compound of the Prime Minister's offices and open up the surrounding streets they have blocked for two days.

A judge read out the ruling in Bangkok Civil Court ordering the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) to end their protest at Government House.

The protest is aimed at overthrowing the seven-month old administration of Thai Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej.

PAD protests in early 2006 helped lead to the coup that unseated Mr Shinawatra, and the entry to government of his ally Mr Sundaravej has infuriated the old power elites in the military and palace.

Yesterday, the demonstrators marched before dawn to the office of the state-run National Broadcasting Service of Thailand, forcing its staff to temporarily stop broadcasting and switch to another location.
