Zimbabwe opposition faction leader Arthur Mutambara has said the country's rivals had ‘agreement on everything except on one aspect’.

‘Morgan Tsvangirai has requested time to reflect and consult,’ Mr Mutambara told reporters.

‘Three times he agreed to this one aspect and three times he changed his mind.’

Mr Tsvangirai later said he was still committed to taking part in genuine power-sharing talks.

Mr Tsvangirai leads the main trunk of the Movement for Democratic Change opposition, while Mutambara heads a smaller MDC faction.

Mr Mutambara said that no deal had been signed between his faction and President Robert Mugabe's ZANU-PF party.

Three days of talks between the country's rivals, mediated by South African President Thabo Mbeki, broke up on Tuesday night.

Afterwards, Mr Mbeki said he remained confident all of the rivals could find an agreement.

It is not immediately clear when the parties would meet again to resume talks.

Mr Mbeki's comments came shortly after a ruling party official said President Mugabe and Mr Mutambara's faction had reached a deal that would lead to a new government, but which did not include Morgan Tsvangirai.

Mr Tsvangirai left the discussions yesterday evening without commenting, and officials from his party could not immediately be reached.

The opposition leader finished ahead of Mr Mugabe in the March first round of the presidential election but boycotted the run-off in June, saying dozens of his supporters had been killed and thousands injured.
