Dawn Farm Foods, which supplies the Subway chain, has withdrawn some of its cooked meat products due to a salmonella scare.
The company said that as a precaution it had withdrawn batches of beef, chicken and bacon from the made-to-order sandwich trade.
Potentially contaminated meat was supplied to Subway, which has confirmed that specific batches of its Philly Style Steak and Chicken Fajita products have been withdrawn from sale.
One of Dawn Farm Foods' production lines will remain closed until an investigation by the Food Safety Authority is completed.
While it is not a life-threatening illness for most, the FSAI warns that salmonella can have serious complications for older people, young children, pregnant women and people with already weakened immune systems.
Symptoms of the food poisoning can include diarrhoea, stomach cramps, vomiting and fever.
The FSAI is continuing to work towards identifying the exact source of the outbreak but a list of affected products is available and will be updated on the FSAI's website www.fsai.ie.
