A spokesman for the family of an Irish climber reported missing along with five others on K2 say they are confident he will be found.
It is understood that 37-year-old Gerard McDonnell, from Kilcornan in Co Limerick, was descending the mountain with a Dutch expedition, after successfully reaching the summit yesterday, when they were hit by falling ice.
The group has been cut off, 8,000m from the base of the world's second highest mountain, on the China-Pakistan border.
The family spokesperson said this evening they had received news that a climber had been spotted climbing down a route of K2 and they were hopeful that it was Gerard.
Veteran climber Pat Falvey, who has been monitoring the expedition, said search teams are hopeful Mr McDonnell will be found.
