Four NATO soldiers and one civilian have been killed in an explosion in Afghanistan.

The soldiers, members of NATO's International Security Assistance Force, were killed by an explosion in the northwestern province of Kunar.

ISAF does not release the nationality of dead soldiers but most of the soldiers in Kunar are from the US.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack and said it had used a remote-controlled roadside bomb.

Another ISAF soldier was killed on Friday in the eastern province of Khost.

Violence has risen by some 40% in eastern Afghanistan this year, according to ISAF, with Taliban militants targeting foreign and Afghan military convoys with roadside bombs and suicide attacks.
