Sixteen girls have been killed and at least 27 injured after a suspected gas explosion caused a school to collapse in Turkey.
The explosion, at a religious school for girls, happened just as the pupils, aged from eight to 16, were getting up for morning prayers.
The three-storey building in the central town of Taskent, in the Konya province, then crumbled leaving many of the children trapped.
Local authorities gave a preliminary toll of 14 dead and 27 injured among the girls who were all studying the Koran during the summer holiday break.
Around 40 girls were said to be in the school at the time of the disaster.
