A medium earthquake was all the talk in the US city of Los Angeles today, but no damage was reported.
The quake is reported to have registered 5.8 on the Richter scale and centered near Chino Hills, about 48km east of Los Angeles.
Witnesses reported feeling the shaking strongly in neighbouring Orange County and as far south as San Diego.
The social networking site Twitter was the centre of the most commotion. Thousands of Angelenos gave instant reports of their post-quake 'status'.
One entry read: 'things are moving and shaking in Los Angeles... I got caught with my pants down in the men's room'.
Put into perspective, an 8.7 magnitude earthquake like the one that hit Indonesia in 2005 is 23,000 times stronger than today's rumble in Los Angeles, according to the US Geological Survey.
This map shows how many earthquakes have occured in California and Nevada in the past week. While today's was the biggest, it was by no means alone.
