A man in his 20s who fell off a cliff in Co Clare early this morning has been airlifted to safety.

The alarm was raised after the man fell between nine and 12 metres (30 and 40 feet) on the cliff face at Quilty at 7.30am this morning.

He was on his own at the time of the incident.

The alarm was raised by a woman who was at the scene.

The man has been brought to University College Hospital in Galway, but his injuries are not believed to be serious.

The Doolin cliff and Coast Guard service and the Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter were involved in the operation.
