An adult and child remain in a critical condition following last night's crash in south Co Tipperary, in which a man was killed.

Five other people, including three children, were hospitalised after the collision.

All of the injured were taken to South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel, where one child remains in a critical condition, while an adult has been transferred to Cork University Hospital.

Another injured child has since been transferred to Waterford Regional Hospital.

The crash happened outside Cashel on the Clonmel Road just before 10pm last night.

A man in his 20s, who was the driver and only occupant of one of two cars involved, was fatally injured.

The second car carried an adult driver and two child passengers.

One of the cars struck a house in the crash, injuring a seven-year-old boy and two women, one in her 50s and the other in her 80s.

The road is expected to remain closed for the rest of today, and diversions are in place.

Motorists making their way to the Munster Hurling Final at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick this afternoon may be affected.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was on the Cashel to Clonmel road yesterday evening between 9pm and 10pm, or anyone with any information, to contact the Cahir Garda Station on 052 45630.
