Three people have been killed in separate road crashes in counties Offaly and Monaghan.

A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a collision in Co Offaly this morning.

The motorbike he was riding went out of control at a roundabout on the Dublin Road in Edenderry just after 1.30am.

The man died at the scene. No other vehicle was involved.

Two men have died as a result of a three vehicle collision in Co Monaghan.

The crash, which involved a lorry and two vans, happened at around 1pm this afternoon on the N2 Dublin to Derry road between Castleblayney and Carrickmacross.

The driver of one of the vans, a man in his 70s, died at the scene.

The driver of the second van was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

The driver of the lorry was taken Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda but his injuries are not life threatening.
