Dublin City Council - New mayor to be elected
Dublin City Council - New mayor to be elected

Dublin city councillors will be electing a new lord mayor tomorrow night. The vote is likely to go to Fianna Fáil because of a voting pact with Labour.

Eibhlin Byrne from the Clontarf area is Fianna Fáil's candidate, and could count on 27 votes because of the pact.

If all councillors from both parties vote this would mean a majority of one on the 52-member council.

Fianna Fáil is also hoping for support from among three independents as well as the Green Party and Progressive Democrats who have one councillor each.

Other known candidates are Fine Gael's Mary O'Shea from Cabra/Glasnevin and Sinn Féin's Criona Ni Dhalaigh from Ballyfermot.
