A 67-year-old man has died in hospital after a road accident in central Dublin early today.

The cyclist received serious injuries in a collision involving a bicycle and a bus on Fitzwilliam Square East at about 1am.

He was taken to St James's Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Gardaí at Pearse Street are investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Meanwhile three children are being treated in hospital following a crash in Co Kildare.

The two-car collision happened at about 1.10pm this afternoon on the Derrinturn to Allenwood road.

The children were taken to Tallaght Hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The road was closed off for a time but has since reopened.

Separately, two women in their 20s who were involved in a road accident near the village of Corofin in Co Galway this afternoon have been taken to hospital in the city.

They were the driver and passenger in a car which was involved in a collision with another car at Ardskeagh Beg.

One of the two women is said to be seriously injured. Gardaí say the road between Corofin and Ballyglunin will remain closed for several hours.
