Search underway for teen in River Lee

Gardaí and the emergency services are searching for a 15-year-old boy who went missing after he got into difficulties while swimming in the River Lee in Cork this evening.

The teenager was with a group which was swimming at Fitzgerald Park near Cork city centre when he and another teenager got into difficulties at around 8pm.

The second teenager was rescued by a garda who jumped into the river, but the 15-year-old is still missing.

Gardaí and a number of water units from Cork City Fire Service are at the scene.

Divers from the Naval Service and members of the Civil Defence are also helping in the search.

The Waterford Coastguard helicopter, which is has heat seeking equipment has also taken part in search.
