Robert Mugabe - Accused over election re-run

The US has accused Zimbabwe's President of trying to starve opposition supporters into submission ahead of the run-off presidential election later this month.

The US ambassador said officials were confiscating identification cards - preventing people from receiving food aid and from voting in the upcoming poll.

The main opposition party - the Movement for Democratic Change - say they have been prevented from holding rallies.

Their leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, was detained for a number of hours yesterday before being released.
