No evacuation over Westmeath bog fire

The fire services in Co Westmeath were called to the scene of a major fire on bogland at Ballyhealy, near Delvin.

As a precaution, Westmeath County Council activated its major emergency plan, which was stood down at 10.15pm.

The garda helicopter assisted in determining the extent of the fire.

A small number of homes were determined to be at low risk from the fire, but were not evacuated.

The Fire Service is maintaining a presence on the ground overnight to monitor the potential spread of fire and any associated risk.
