The Western Development Commission has said one Government department needs to take responsibility for delivering on the Government's commitments on balanced regional development.

The Commission is holding a conference today on the issue of balanced regional development.

Key figures from the world of business, development and Government are attending the meeting.

The Commission has said each Government department deals with regional development. However, Dr Pat O'Hara of the WDC said as long as a 'its everybody's business but its nobody's business' approach existed, support for the policy will be scattered and piecemeal.

Dr O'Hara said one Government department dealing with the issue would ensure a clear strategy.

With that, vision could be achieved and the success or failure of the promised targets on regional development could be easier managed, he said.
