Seven people have been killed in a bus crash in central France.

Seven more have been seriously injured after the bus in which they were travelling crashed on a motorway near the city of Blois.

Four of the injured are in a critical condition. 18 other passengers suffered minor injuries.

The bus was carrying Moroccan tourists and was en route to the Paris region when it left the road and hit a pillar supporting a bridge.

The accident happened in the early hours this morning on the A10 motorway.

Four helicopters, 140 firefighters and 25 police were dispatched to the site of the accident to help dislodge the victims from the wreckage.

Transport Minister Dominique Bussereau toured the site of the accident earlier today.

The bus, leased by the French Aziz company, left Tiznit in southern Morocco on Wednesday and was en route to the Paris suburb of Les Mureaux.
