A 34-year-old Limerick woman is seriously ill in hospital following a fire at her home in Jersey which claimed the life of her three-year-old daughter.
Firefighters found the mother and daughter unconscious in their home at Mont Cochon near the capital St Helier's shortly after 4am yesterday when the alarm was raised.
The little girl was due to be flown to Southampton Hospital yesterday for specialist treatment at the burns unit but she died last night.
Her mother is being treated at the intensive care unit of Jersey's general hospital where her condition is said to be serious but stable.
A native of Limerick city, the woman has been living in Jersey for the past number of years.
Her parents flew to the island yesterday and other family members are due to fly over there today.
