The Tánaiste and Enterprise Minister is to meet the National Consumer Agency to discuss why British retailers are charging more for goods in their Irish shops.

Taoiseach Brian Cowen has told the Dáil Mary Coughlan will meet the agency's chief executive later this week.

Labour Party leader Eamon Gilmore said a survey in the Sunday Business Post last weekend showed that in some cases British retailers were charging Irish customers up to 50% more for items.

He named Marks & Spencer and Tesco as examples of shops where goods were much more expensive here even though the Euro has strengthened against Sterling.

Mr Gilmore also quizzed the Taoiseach on the reasons for the rise in diesel prices.
