A 51-year-old man has been killed in a small plane crash near Kilmovee in Co Mayo.
The single engine light aircraft had two men on board. One man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second man was seriously injured and has been taken to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar.
The plane had earlier left Ireland West Airport at Knock, bound for Weston Airport in Dublin.
The plane came down in a field in Kilmovee at 4.45pm when the pilot tried to turn back and make an emergency landing.
Early indications suggest it suffered a technical failure.
The Air Accident Investigation Unit and emergency services attended the scene.
The wreckage of the plane will be removed to Gormanstown, Co Meath tomorrow for a more detailed examination by the Air Accident Investigation Unit.
