The search in Co Kerry for the driver of a car that was found burnt out at Glenbeigh has been called off for the night.

It will resume in the morning.

An air and sea search got underway off earlier this evening following the discovery of a burned out car on a beach near the village of Glenbeigh near Kilorglin.

The car was discovered on the beach at Rossbeigh at around 5pm.

The Valentia lifeboat and the Shannon-based coastguard helicopter were involved in the search.

A man has been reported missing following the discovery of the car.

Gardaí and local people were also involved in the search.

The car was partly submerged by an incoming tide at Rossbeigh, between Cahirciveen and Kilorglin.
