The Government has published a report by the Road Safety Authority calling for tougher drink-driving limits.
Last October the Government said it was committed to reducing the blood alcohol limit, but asked the RSA to produce a report making recommendations about what that limit should be.
The findings of the study call for drink-driving limits to be cut from 80mg to 50mg, while stricter limits are also mooted for learner drivers.
It calls for the introduction of a 20mg limit for learner, newly-qualified drivers, and drivers of buses, work vehicles, tractors and commercial trucks.
Separate to the RSA's report, the Government is also re-examining penalties for drink-driving offences, which could lead to a graded system where less serious offences could be addressed by on-the-spot fines.
