A man in his 50s is in a serious condition in hospital after a shooting incident in west Waterford this afternoon.
The man received a blast from a rifle while walking in a wooded area around 1pm at Coolbeggan near the village of Knockanore.
It is believed the man may have approached the occupant of a jeep in a secluded area where the shooting incident happened.
He managed to stagger 50 metres before being found on the roadside by a local person.
He was taken to Cork University Hospital and his condition is described as serious but not life-threatening.
Gardaí are carrying out an investigation and are appealing for information from anyone who may have been in the area at the time, or who may have seen a blue jeep in the area. Anyone with information should contact Dungarven Garda Station on 058 48600 or the Garda Confidential line on 1 800 666 111.
