A crewman who was injured on board an Irish fishing vessel approximately 100km off the south west coast is being airlifted to hospital in Cork.

The man, believed to be from Spain, sustained hand injuries in the accident, according to a coast guard spokesman.

The airlift is being undertaken by the Shannon-based coastguard helicopter which will fly the injured man to University hospital in Cork.
