Eight people died in an explosion which destroyed a house in Iraq's southern city of Basra overnight.
Neighbours said they believed the blast was caused by a US air strike.
The British military, which is responsible for US and British forces in the area, denied that and said it had no explanation for the blast.
Basra has seen numerous US air strikes over the past two weeks since Iraqi security forces launched a crackdown on Shis militia last month.
