Zimbabwe court delays election ruling

Zimbabwe - Errors made in compiling results, says ruling party
Zimbabwe - Errors made in compiling results, says ruling party

A Zimbabwean high court judge says he will rule tomorrow on a petition by the opposition Movement for Democratic Change demanding the immediate release of presidential election results.

President Robert Mugabe's party, ZANU-PF, had asked electoral officials to delay the results of last weekend's presidential election result and to recount the votes because of claims of 'errors and miscalculations'.

The opposition Movement for Democratic Change has said the move is illegal.

The MDC also denied it had proposed a unity government.

A minister had earlier said ZANU-PF had rejected an opposition call for a coalition.

MDC has been trying to get the results published from the presidential vote, it claims Morgan Tsvangarai was the outright winner.

Meanwhile hardline supporters of President Robert Mugabe invaded several of Zimbabwe's few remaining white-owned farms but most were later forced off after police intervention.
