Three members of a family have been killed in a US air strike on a house in the southern Iraqi city of Basra.
The attack earlier this morning in the al-Qibla neighbourhood of Basra flattened the family home.
The US military confirmed its aircraft carried out a strike but said it had targeted 'enemy forces'.
It said the strike was in support of the Iraqi troops and coalition forces.
Al-Qibla is among a string of Basra neighbourhoods controlled by the Mehdi Army militia of powerful Shia cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.
The areas have been targeted by Iraq's security forces in a crackdown since 25 March.
