Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has told the Dáil that the legislation relating to the referendum on the Lisbon Treaty will be published on Thursday.
He said this will allow for the set up of the referendum commission and will give it 90 days or so to do its work.
Mr Ahern said the referendum was likely to take place at the end of May, but said an exact date had not been set.
