Five houses were struck by lightning in the village of Binghamstown near Belmullet in Co Mayo this morning.
One of the houses suffered structural damage, while the other four had telephone and electrical cables and installations destroyed.
Insurance assessors say more than €100,000 worth of damage was caused by the lightning strike.
The area was experiencing severe weather conditions at the time.
Fire service personnel and gardaí attended the scene.
