A man in his 60s has been killed in an accident at a railway level crossing in Co Mayo.
He was the driver of a car which was struck by a train on the outskirts of Straide at around 11am.
The collision occurred on the Ballina to Dublin line where it intersects a minor road. The crossing has manually-operated gates.
The train was not carrying any passengers and had left Ballina on its way to Castlebar. It was due to travel to Dublin later this afternoon.
Iarnród Éireann says an investigation into the accident is under way. A separate garda investigation is also taking place at the scene.
