Childline has said it received 20,592 calls last year relating to abuse and violence, or 13% of overall calls received.
This highlights the number of Irish children dealing with abuse and violence.
Childline, a 24-hour phone service run by the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, took 6,295 calls on mental health issues.
Overall, Childline answered 294,908 calls in 2007, a 9% increase on the number of calls answered in 2006 – but this was still less than half of all calls received.
Childline has launched a campaign to ensure that all calls are answered by 2011.
