A nine-year-old boy is recovering after being injured last night in what police say was a hit-and-run in Co Down.

The boy was treated in hospital for bruising and shock after being struck by a car in Comber.

The PSNI says a dark-coloured car, possibly a Vauxhall, approached a group of children in the Longlands Drive area of the town at around 8pm. The children ran away.

But when the driver of the car drove off, he struck a nine-year-old, who had not been with the group of other children.

The PSNI has appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision or saw such a car in the area at the time to contact them.
