A report into the case of a Tipperary woman who had a delayed breast cancer diagnosis in 2005 is almost complete, according to the Health Information and Quality Authority.

The report looks at the case of Rebecca O'Malley and is expected to go before an extraordinary meeting of the HIQA board next month. It will be published shortly after.

The inquiry is examining the provision of care to the 42-year-old in relation to her symptomatic breast disease, at the pathology services at Cork University Hospital, and the breast disease services at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick.

This evening in a statement, Rebecca O'Malley said the delay in publishing the report into her misdiagnosis makes her despair.

The mother of three said it was the third delay in as many months and she was concerned that some individuals may be seeking to block publication of the report and issues relating to patient safety.
