Second night of flight disruption at Cork

Cork Airport - Second night of flight disruption

The Irish Aviation Authority has confirmed that there will again be no flights to and from Cork Airport between midnight and 8am tomorrow.

A spokesperson said because of the ongoing dispute between air traffic controllers and the IAA, no-one was available to cover tonight for a controller who has taken ill.

Because of this, only emergency cover will be available in Cork.

Airport management has confirmed that this will affect six early morning flights due to begin to depart from 6.30am.

However, they are advising all passengers to report as normal.

Eight departures, delayed because of last night's disruption to service, all left within 24 minutes of the controllers coming on duty at 8am this morning.

Some knock-on delays from that disruption are expected over the course of today.

At Shannon Airport last night, controllers stopped providing cover for flights between 6pm and 9pm.

Air traffic controllers voted overwhelmingly for strike action last week. However, it is hoped that can be averted when talks resume between both sides at the Labour Relations Commission on Tuesday.
