190 Iarnród Éireann passengers were delayed this morning following reports that a vehicle had struck a bridge near Athenry in Co Galway.

Following an examination, Iarnród Éireann engineers said they were satisfied that there was no damage to the bridge in Derrydonnell.

The 7am Athlone to Galway train, carrying 190 passengers, was halted in Athenry as a precautionary measure.

It later resumed its journey.
