US President George W Bush has delivered his final State of the Union address.
Speaking before the joint Houses of Congress, Mr Bush spoke about the uncertainty in the US economy and urged that an economic stimulus bill be passed.
He also spoke of the need for immigration reform and defended his Iraq policy.
The economy loomed large in last night's address, with Mr Bush urging Congress to quickly pass an economic stimulus package already agreed by leaders of the House and now being discussed in the Senate.
He said in the long run, Americans could be confident about economic growth but in the short run, growth is slowing.
He also mentioned what he described as the pressing challenge of immigration reform.
Two attempts to agree legislation have failed during his time in office and there seems little prospect such a contentious and difficult issue will be tackled in this election year.
In a speech with few new initiatives, Mr Bush defended at length his Iraq policy which he said would leave behind a more hopeful region and a safer US.
