An oral hearing into the planning application by the Quinn Group to build a gas fired power station is under way in Co Monaghan.
Quinn Energy is seeking to build the station in Toomes on the Louth/Monaghan border at a cost of around €320m. However there is strong local opposition to the project.
Around 40 residents, as well as officials from the Departments of Energy and the Environment and representatives of An Taisce, are attending the hearing.
Also present are officials from Monaghan and Louth County Councils and the Quinn Group.
As well as residents' concerns about the project, the hearing will be discussing areas of national policy and environmental issues.
It is expected the hearing will last until Thursday.
