Yes majority among decided on EU treaty: poll

Lisbon treaty - Most still undecided on referendum
Lisbon treaty - Most still undecided on referendum

A new opinion poll shows that supporters of the Lisbon Treaty have a commanding lead among voters who have made up their minds how they will vote in the forthcoming referendum.

However, the poll in tomorrow's Irish Times indicates that nearly two thirds of voters have yet to make up their minds, and only 12% believe they have a satisfactory knowledge of what is in the treaty.

Ireland is the only EU country holding a referendum on the treaty, and the vote has to be held some time this year.

The first major opinion poll of the New Year shows that supporters of the treaty have a commanding lead among committed voters, but that the vast majority have yet to make up their minds.

The tns/MRBI poll for The Irish Times shows that 26% say they will vote yes, an increase of one point since the last poll in October.

10% said they would vote no - a fall of three points;

And a massive 64% say they do not know how they will vote.

Given that huge percentage of don't knows, it is not surprising that when asked if they were happy with their level of knowledge of the Treaty, just 12% said they were; while 68% said they were dissatisfied with their level of knowledge, and 21% did not know whether they knew enough or not.
