A 15-year-old student is in a serious condition at Cork University Hospital after he collapsed during an athletics event in Midleton, Co Cork.
The boy, a student of Mary Immaculata Community College in Dunmanway, was attending a Munster Schools' cross country event on the grounds of CBS Midleton when he collapsed at around 1.30pm.
His school PE teacher was nearby and she carried out CPR. A defibrillator was also used before he was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital under garda escort.
His condition is described as 'serious'.
Some 30 schools and up to 500 students were attending the event.
