A suicide bomber has killed the chief of police and two other officers in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.
The three were targeted as they travelled to the scene of an earlier blast.
Brigadier General Salah al-Juburi had previously been reported wounded in the attack, which struck as he travelled to an apartment block levelled in a bombing which killed 18 people yesterday.
The US military said that the bomber had been disguised as a police officer.
It blamed the attack on al-Qaeda, which has made Iraq’s third city a major base for its operations.
