Members of the Unite trade union have voted overwhelmingly in favour of taking industrial action at the British Embassy in Ballsbridge in Dublin.
More than 90% of the membership voted in favour of the action in support of three colleagues who have been threatened with compulsory redundancy.
In a statement, the British Embassy said it regretted the redundancies but said they were in line with its government's strategy to transfer resources to other areas.
