The Taoiseach has confirmed that Revenue told his tax advisors that it would not be in position to issue him with a tax clearance certificate until the Mahon Tribunal has completed its work.
Asked if he had considered resigning as a result of the controversy over his finances, Mr Ahern replied:'never - maybe in 2012'.
He said he was confident that the Government parties could agree a position for next week's Dáil debate on the Mahon Tribunal.
Mr Ahern indicated that under tax law there was no difficulty regarding the tax clearance certificate.
