Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is in Tanzania's Dar es Salaam where he has been visiting projects funded by Irish development aid.

Today he announced that Ireland would spend over €170m over the next three years on development aid projects there.

He also met the President, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, and Prime Minister Edward Ngoyai Lowassa.

Mr Ahern arrived in Tanzania last night from South Africa.

His final engagements in South Africa yesterday included a visit to a hospice for the terminally ill founded by Irish Passionist priest Fr Kieran Creagh, who was seriously wounded in a gun attack last year.
