The world governing body for athletics has said it hopes the prison sentence handed down to the former US Olympic sprinter, Marion Jones, will deter others from taking drugs.
The five-times Olympic medalist was sentenced to six months in prison yesterday evening for lying about steroid use and her involvement in a case involving drugs fraud.
Jones pleaded guilty to using performance-enhancing drugs last October.
