Iarnród Éireann northern line services resumed this afternoon with a limited service on the Dublin to Belfast route.
It is expected that all northbound services between Dublin and Dundalk/Drogheda will operate as normal from 4pm for the evening rush hour.
A limited service will run southbound during this time.
Over the weekend, all northern line services between Dublin and Dundalk/Drogheda are expected to be cancelled. Bus transfers will operate for passengers on Enterprise routes.
All other Irish Rail services, including DART, are operating as normal.
Around 7,000 commuters who use the service between Dublin and Belfast had to make alternative arrangements this morning after the line was blocked by a derailed train south of Skerries. All peak time commuter services were cancelled between Dundalk/Drogheda and Dublin.
Around 11pm last night, six wagons of a train carrying mineral ore went off the tracks in Hacketstown, 3km south of Skerries. It had been travelling from Tara Mines to North Wall.
An investigation into how the derailment happened is being launched.
Bus Éireann says it is assisting Irish Rail in trying to procure buses through Bus Éireann contractors.
It says that it will keep buses on the affected routes longer than normal to try to facilitate as many passengers as possible.
