US air strikes hit 40 locations near Baghdad

US aircraft have attacked more than 40 targets on the outskirts of Baghdad, in what the military said was a major strike on al-Qaeda.

The US Air Force dispatched two B-1 bombers and four F-16 fighter jets, aiming at three large target areas in Arab Jabour.

The area of date palm groves has been described by the US as a haven for militants.
