Stena Line sailings between Belfast and Stranraer have been cancelled due to the adverse weather.

This includes the HSS at 10.10pm and the traditional ferry services at 7pm and at 3.15am tomorrow morning.

The next service from Belfast is not due until the HSS departure at 7.35am in the morning but this is also subject to delay or cancellation.

At the moment, P+O say their Larne to Cairnryan service is still operational.

Met Éireann earlier issued a severe weather alert warning of stormy conditions today which will continue for much of tonight.

The most severe winds will be in Ulster, Connacht and north Leinster.

Gusts of 100 to 150km/h are being forecast, along with heavy rain in places, followed by showers of hail, sleet and snow.

Motorists were advised that current extremely wet weather is making driving conditions very slippery.

Journey times are likely to be lengthened and drivers should give themselves plenty of time to get to their destination.

AA Roadwatch strongly advised motorists to reduce speed and drive with extra care.
