Sri Lankan minister dies in bomb blast

A Sri Lankan government minister has died after his vehicle was targeted by a suspected Tamil Tiger roadside bomb north of the capital.

Minister D M Dassanayake's vehicle was hit by the blast this morning, in the town of Ja-Ela, 19km north of Colombo.

He died later in hospital in the nearby town of Ragama.

The blast was on the main road that leads to the island's only international airport.

Ten other people were wounded in the blast.
